Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling was HONORED to travel to Springfield & rally on March 20th for an increase in the state budget for survivors of sexual violence. The state HAS NOT given an increase in funds in OVER 20 years.
THAT'S TOO LONG. ICASA rape crisis centers gathered to rally and show support for surivors. While there, advocates responded to the hospital for a victim of rape. Advocates took a crisis call. Preventionists scheduled presentations at a local school. Counselors and therapists were back at their center, seeing clients. A couragous survivor humbled us as he spoke about how he WOULD NOT BE HERE if it weren't for the people at the crisis center in his community. IMPACT of FUNDING CRISIS
Currently, RSAC has a 4 week long waitlist and with close to 20 staff, telling a victim they must wait for essential services is DETRIMENTAL TO THEIR MENTAL, PHYSICAL & EMOTIONAL HEALTH. It is also crippling to our communities, having a survivor of a horrific traumatic event, go back to work, school or go right back into their daily life with NO HELP. This is UNEXCEPTABLE! FUND ILLINOIS sexual assault crisis services to help survivors everywhere be provided the services THEY DESERVE. FUND ILLINOIS to pay staff a livable wage to avoid burn out! FUND ILLINOIS so rape crisis center staff can be present with each and every victim of rape that goes to their local hospital.
