What is Sexual Abuse?

Sexual assault is any type of sexual activity that is unwanted by someone to whom you have not given your consent. A sexual assault may include the use of physical force, threats, or intimidation. Sexual assault is a crime and can be punishable by law.

  • 1 in 4 women before the age of 18 will be sexually assaulted
  • 1 in 6 men before the age of 18 will be sexually assaulted
  • 90% of children are abused by someone they know
  • Sexual violence is about power and control and the weapon is sex
